MADISON, Wis.--Using the momentum from three other NU victories in singles, Chuck Perrin (Atlanta, Ga./The Walker School) knocked down Alex Conti 7-6 (5), 6-3 at No. 3 to give Northwestern's 40th-ranked men's tennis its first Big Ten win of the season, an eventual 4-3 victory over Wisconsin.

After dropping the doubles point, NU (9-4, 1-1 Big Ten) answered with consecutive singles victories from Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice), Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbr?gge).

"The key for us was those wins from Matt, Adam and Christian to get us ahead early," said head coach Paul Torricelli. "I think that really helped give Chuck the boost and subsequently the win for our team."

Schaechterle and Christian edged Ward Bortz and Jordan Raemisch 8-6 at No. 3 to prevent the sweep in doubles for the 'Cats, who are coming off a loss to Notre Dame last Saturday.

Christian then went on to top Bortz again, this time 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5. Tempke added a 6-4, 6-2 win over David Hippee at No. 2, and then Schaechterle rallied 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 against Mark Weinig at No. 6.

"We wanted to bounce back from last week's loss, and we did that with this win," said Torricelli. "Even though we were up 4-1, Wisconsin really made us work."

The loss dropped the Badgers to 3-4, 0-1 Big Ten. NU has now defeated Wisconsin for the 16th-consecutive time for a 54-32-2 lead in the all-time series.

The Wildcats' next match will be against Indiana at 4 p.m. March 5 in Bloomington, Ind.
