EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's 36th-ranked women's golf team is set to co-host the Central District Classic along with Michigan State on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 23-24. The 54-hole tournament is being played at River Wilderness Country Club in Parrish, Fla.
Northwestern finished 13th in the event a year ago. Junior Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) helped pace the Wildcats with a 12th-place finish individually, firing a 12-over 228.
"There are specific teams that we want to beat this coming weekend to improve our win-loss records for regional selection," NU head coach Chris Regenberg said. "Our records with many of the teams are very close so a good tournament performance could have great impact in our regional standing."
Including the co-hosts, the 15-team field is comprised of: Arkansas, Baylor, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, LSU, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas A&M, TCU and Wisconsin. All of the teams entered with the exception of LSU are in Northwestern's region.
The Wildcats are coming off a dual match with their co-host No. 16 Michigan State last week. The Spartans won the match 14.5 to 3.5.
"Most of the field is Midwestern and we feel our dual meet last weekend prepared us well to compete against teams that have been practicing indoors," Regenberg said.
Teams will play 36 holes Monday beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday.
