
NU in Ninth After Day 2 of Big Ten Championships

MINNEAPOLIS--Northwestern's women's swimming and diving team sits in ninth place after two days of competition at the Big Ten Championships.
On Thursday, Vicky West (Redlands, Calif./Redlands) started the day for the Wildcats by taking 23rd in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.10. West edged teammate Erica Rose (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School), whose time of 5:00.67 put her in the 30th position.
Katie Paglini (Chicago, Ill./Latin School) paced all NU swimmers in the 200 yard IM with her ninth-place finish. The sophomore fell just shy of eighth place with her time of 2:05.48 in the fifth event of the competition.
Meanwhile, Erin Swenson (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) followed at 19th place with a time of 2:06.71, preceeding Christy Olin (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West), who came in 40th with a time of 2:11.65.
In event six, the 50 yard freestyle, Michelle Oeser (Eliot, Maine/Brown) had the best showing for the 'Cats by taking 15th with a time 24.20. Marijana Surkovic (Dubrovnik, Croatia/Economy) was close behind with a time of 24.40, good for 23rd.
NU will compete in seven events on Friday, including the 400 medley relay and the 100 butterfly.
