EVANSTON, Ill. - After months of training and competing, Northwestern's women's swimming and diving team has reached the point in the season that matters most-- the championship meets. The Wildcats meet up with the conference's best in Minneapolis, Minn. for the Big Ten Championships this weekend.

While the regular season meets are significant, they are ultimately mere stepping stones to get to the championship meets. That said, the Wildcats have taken the neccesary steps to make a strong showing at this year's conference championships.

Junior Christy Olin has been dominant this season in the butterfly events. Olin took first in all five dual meets against conference opponents in the 200 butterfly. She placed first four times and second once in the 100 fly in conference duals as well.

Freshman diver Leanne Dumais has made a rather large splash in her first season. She has posted four first-place finishes in conference duals in both the one-and-three-meter diving events and has not finished out of the top four in any dual meet against Big Ten opponents. Dumais swept both events against Wisconsin, Michigan State and Iowa.

Seniors Erica Rose, Vicky West and Katie Simmons have all posted top-five finishes at the Big Ten Championships. West finished fifth in the 1650 freestyle at the conference championships last year, while Rose also finished fifth in the 400 individual medley. Simmons, meanwhile, swam to fifth-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke in 2001 and the 200 breast in last year's meet.
