EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern hosted the Burton Open Friday, Oct. 8, and a Big Ten Invitational tournament Saturday, Oct. 9 at Patten Gym. Several Wildcats turned in impressive performances.

The Burton Open was open to the public and the women fenced unattached to the men's division.

Northwestern claimed the top three spots in the women's foil, with senior Julia Foldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium) taking first place, sophomore Jessica Florendo (Forest Hills, N.Y./The Dwight School) taking second place and junior Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) and freshman Natalie Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) tying for third place.

Junior Sharon Sullivan (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore Courtney DuBois (Chatham, N.J./Oak Knoll) finished first and second in the Epee competition. In the sabre competition, junior Emily Pasternak (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and Mai Vu (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) claimed first and second place.

Assistant coach Ed Kaihatsu took third place in the men's foil and Head Coach Laurie Schiller finished ninth in the men's sabre.

Carly Wells - a former NU All-American - placed first in the women's sabre.

In Sunday's Big Ten Invitational, Foldi took second place in the mixed foil competition, while Natalie Wang and Florendo tied for third place.

Rob Bralow of NU finished in first place in the mixed epee competition, while Matt Socia finished in first place for the 'Cats in the mixed sabre competition.
