Seniors Leah Delcourt (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) and Drew Robertson (Long Beach, Calif. Long Beach Poly) played their hearts out in the final home match of their collegiate careers Saturday night against Michigan, but the Wolverines swept the `Cats 3-0 (21-30, 26-30, 20-30).
Robertson posted 34 assists on the night, giving her 5,006 on her career - becoming the first-and-only Wildcat to crack the 5,000 mark. She also notched eight digs, a service ace and a block assist.
Delcourt recorded four kills and also had a block assist.
"Drew and Leah are a special group of girls," Head Coach Keylor Chan said. "They will be sorely missed here at NU after the season is done. Their contributions to this program have been tremendous."
Freshman Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) led the team with 13 kills off a .211 hitting percentage. Behind Anderson was freshman Stephanie Jurivich (LaGrange, Ill./St. Ignatius) and sophomore Julie Purcell (Louisville, Ky./Assumption), who both nailed seven kills for the `Cats.
Michigan's Lyndsay Miller proved to be the main reason why NU's offense never really got going. Miller recorded three solo blocks and four block assists, while the Wolverines recorded 11.5 blocks total blocks as a team.
The `Cats played well on the defensive end, as four different players recorded eight digs or better. Junior co-captain Christie Gardner (West Bend, Wis./West Bend) led the team with nine digs.
NU is next in action against Indiana Friday, November 26 before closing out the season against Purdue Saturday, November 27.
