KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Senior Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) shot another even-par 71 on Saturday and remained two strokes off the lead of the Mercedes-Benz Championships, being hosted by the University of Tennessee. As a team, the Wildcats are in ninth place (299-309=608).
Ohio State, the defending tournament champion, leads the team race by nine strokes over Tulane. Individually, Tennessee's Violeta Retamoza gained a one-stroke lead after firing a 3-under 68. Ohio State's Lindsay Knowlton and Tulane's Alison Walshe are one stroke back, and one stroke in front of Kim.
Freshman Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) shot a 5-under 76 on Saturday and moved to 39th place (77-76=153). Fellow freshman Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) is in 53rd place (77-79=156).
Sophomores Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) and Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex School) are 66th and 86th, respectively.
The third and final round will be played Sunday.
