EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern (6-10, 1-5 Big Ten) fell to No. 3 Minnesota (16-2, 5-1 Big Ten) Saturday, Oct. 9 in three close games (21-30, 26-30, 27-30). The 'Cats earned a split on the weekend though, after beating Iowa the previous night 3-2.
"I saw some great things from our team tonight," Head Coach Keylor Chan said. "We played right with one of the top teams in the nation and we are continuing to get better."
Senior Drew Robertson (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) recorded her second-consecutive double-double with 38 assists and 11 digs, and also added two service aces. Robertson's service aces came at key spots for the 'Cats in the third game, pushing NU's lead to 26-23. The Gophers battled back to win in close fashion though, 30-27.
Freshman Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) led the offense with 12 kills, while freshman Brittney Aldridge was solid with nine kills and a .389 hitting percentage.
On the defensive end, junior co-captain Christie Gardner (West Bend, Wis./West Bend) recorded 17 kills against one of the top offenses in the Big Ten.
The 'Cats return to action next weekend when Purdue and Indiana come to Welsh-Ryan Arena.
