NOTRE DAME, Ind.--A week after going 8-0 in the Midwest Duals, Northwestern's fifth-ranked women's fencing team racked up five more wins on the first day of competition at the Notre Dame Duals.
In the morning session, the 'Cats (23-2) whipped their first three opponents, pounding both Cal State-Fullerton and Wayne State 21-6 and topping Cal-San Diego 18-9.
The team had a harder time against Duke in the afternoon but still managed a 15-12 victory. That was followed by an easy 22-5 win over Air Force to close out the day for NU.
"Overall I was pleased," said head coach Laurie Schiller, "but I think we could have done better in certain areas."
NU will fence in the final day of competition tomorrow, including duals against No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 2 Ohio State.
