Northwestern Swims Past Toledo 128-67

TOLEDO, Ohio - Northwestern used a total team effort to defeat Toledo 128-67 Saturday in the Wildcats' final nonconference dual meet. Seven different Northwestern swimmers tallied first-place finishes to beat the Rockets.
The Wildcats also dominated the relay events. NU's 200 freestyle relay team, consisting of Sara Petric, Michelle Oeser, Marijana Surkovic and Erin Swenson, broke a Toledo pool record, clocking in at 1:36.10.
Katie Paglini, Brielle Bovee, Christy Olin and Lori Schwanhausser combined to lead Northwestern to a first-place finish in the 800 medley relay with a time of 8:30.72.
After the medley relay win, Ashley Welnhofer got the Cats' going in the individual events, winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.84.
Surkovic followed with a 50 freestyle victory with a time of 24.82 while Swenson won the 200 IM, clocking in at 2:08.24.
Olin continued her dominance in the butterfly events, winning the 100 fly with a time of 57.77. Schwanhausser's 100 free time of 53.95 was good enough for first place, while Petric narrowly defeated Welnhofer to win the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.58.
Amy Mueller won the 500 freestyle to give the Wildcats their 10th straight win and sealed the team victory.
Northwestern is back in action Sat. January 31st when they take on Iowa at the Norris Aquatics Center for Senior Day.
