Wildcats Defeat Michigan State 136-105

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern defeated Michigan State 136-105 Friday night at the Norris Aquatics Center to pick up its first Big Ten dual victory of the season. The Wildcats dominated the individual events, placing first in nine of the 11 non-relay events.
Freshman diver Leanne Dumais swept the diving competition, winning both the one-and-three-meter diving events with scores of 255.68 and 257.03, respectively. What makes the Wildcats' performance even more impressive is the fact that aside from Dumais, all of the first-place finishers were different.
Erica Rose picked up a first-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 10:13.18. Katie Simmons followed with a first-place finish of her own, winning the 200 free with a time of 1:54.15.
Erin Swenson took first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:29.40, while junior Christy Olin picked up another first-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.53.
Michelle Oeser and Vicky West wrapped up the freestyle events in winning fashion. Oeser won the 100 free with a time of 52.25 while West won the 500, swimming a 5:01.33. Katie Paglini continued her season success in the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 58.11.
The 'Cats are back in action Fri., January 23 when they head to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan at 3 p.m.
