EVANSTON, Ill.--One week after the Northwestern's sabre squad competed in the USFA North American Cup, the Wildcat foilists and epeeists will try their hand this Friday through Sunday in San Jose, Calif.

The event, which will showcase fencers from all over the continent, will be divided into two classes, senior/division 1 (C-ranked fencers or higher) and junior (under 20 years of age).

"It would not surprise me to see our fencers make the finals, especially in the junior competition," said head coach Laurie Schiller. "Our team usually does pretty well in this event, which says a lot because the best fencers in North America compete in it."

Representing the NU foil team will be junior Julia Foldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium), freshman Jessica Florendo (Forest Hills, N.Y./The Dwight School) and sophomore Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja). All three will compete in senior/division 1, while Wang and Florendo also will compete in the junior competition.

Foldi paced the squad last year with her 10th-place finish in senior/division 1. Then-high school student Florendo took 38th, and Wang followed at 58th.

For the epee squad, sophomore Sharon Sullivan (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and freshmen Courtney DuBois (Chatham, N.J./Oak Knoll), Sara Pecherek (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) and Sarah Gravlee (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) will represent NU. Sullivan and DuBois will compete in both events; Pecherek and Gravlee will compete only in the junior competition.
