SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Mai Vu (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) concluded the NU sabre squad's appearance at the USFA North American Cup on a high note with a 25th-place performance.

Vu, who took 42nd a day earlier in the senior competition, will earn points toward her individual ranking for finishing in the top 32 of 65 fencers. The freshman had made it into the Round of 32 before bowing out.

Another freshman sabreist also did well, as Sophie Eustis (Andover, Mass./Concord Academy) finished in 34th place. Sophomore Emily Pasternak (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) ended up tied for 49th.

This weekend, the epee and foil squads will head to San Jose for the second part of the North American Cup. Competition runs from Friday through Sunday.
