SAN JOSE, Calif.--Emily Pasternak (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) placed a sabre squad-high 31st in the senior class (division 1) on the first day of competition at the USFA North American Cup.
Pasternak, a sophomore, was one of five NU sabreists competing this weekend. Mai Vu (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) and Sophie Eustis (Andover, Mass./Concord Academy) also placed in the top 50 out of the 76 fencers, taking 42nd and 44th, respectively.
"The competition was really tough at the Cup," said head coach Laurie Schiller. "But I am happy with the squad's performance, especially Emily's."
Pasternak, Vu and Eustis also will compete in Sunday's junior class competition.
In other results, Lauren Dunn (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) took 53rd and Lauren Van Gieson (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) ended up 58th.
