28th-Ranked Wildcats Finish Eighth at Lady Northern

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Paced by two freshmen, No. 28 Northwestern finished eighth among 15 teams at the annual Lady Northern tournament, which was played at Ohio State's Scarlet Course (6,201 yards, par-72), site of the 2004 Big Ten Championships.
The tournament field included eight of the nation's top-50 teams, including the ranked Wildcats. Texas, ranked 39th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll, won the event, coming from behind in the final round to edge the host Buckeyes.
Northwestern finished at 72-over (313-313-310=936), just behind Indiana, Kent State and Michigan, and just ahead of Wisconsin and Purdue.
Freshman Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex School) and Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) paced the Wildcats, placing 11th and 31st, respectively. Robb finished at 10-over (73-77-76=226), while Kim was 19-over (78-80-77=235).
Northwestern's Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) placed 38th at 22-over (81-79-78=238). The Grzebien sisters, Lauren Grzebien and Mary Ellen Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett), were 51st and 68th. Lauren closed at 25-over (81-81-79=241), while Mary Ellen was 31-over (84-77-86=247).
Another freshman, Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) finished 70th at 32-over (81-85-82=248).
The Wildcats return to action next week (Oct. 6-7) at The Legends of Indiana tournament in Franklin, Ind.
