SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Northwestern women's lacrosse team saw its 2003 season come to a close Saturday with a 14-3 loss at No. 11 Syracuse. The Wildcats ended the campaign with an 8-8 record, a three-win improvement from last year's inaugural season back as a varsity.

The Orangewomen (10-5) scored four goals before the game was nine minutes old and that set the tone for the afternoon, as they took an 8-1 lead by halftime.

Jessica Bell had two of those first four goals as Syracuse got the momentum rolling early. Angela McMahon briefly slowed the Orange down with a goal at 11:28, off a feed from Lindsey Munday. However, a five-minute goalless lull was broken when SU's Leigh-Ann Zimmer netted three goals in a row. Cristine Doran closed out the first-half scoring.

The 'Cuse added the first two goals of the second stanza, from Kim Wayne and Jessica Trombley, before Courtney Koester scored her first of the day. The Orange scored twice more, making the score 12-2, before Munday closed out NU's day with a free-position goal at 45:44.

Ashley Gersuk had seven saves in the NU goal as Syracuse outshot the 'Cats, 31-17.
