NU Wins Battle of Wildcats, 14-4

EVANSTON, Ill. - Fans who caught Monday's women's lacrosse between Northwestern and Davidson certainly got a show that will bring them back in 2004. Playing its final home game of 2003, Northwestern took advantage of a quick start to defeat Davidson 14-4 in a battle of Wildcat teams.
Freshmen Lindsey Munday and Laura Glassanos led the way for NU, as they both tallied four goals and two assists. The two first-year players have really come on of late--Munday has nine goals in the last three games, while Glassanos had her best outing of the season Monday.
Courtney Koester got Northwestern off to a quick start, scoring an unassisted goal just 1:32 into the game. Freshman Lynda McCandlish converted a Munday feed less than a minute later, and 58 seconds after that Munday notched her first on a pass from Koester.
Glassanos netted her first at the 12:10 mark, followed quickly by Erin Flynn, before Davidson got on the board when Brandon Jacob scored on a nice individual charge from behind the goal. Suddenly brough to life, Davidson added another when Becca McDevitt stole the ball from an NU defender and brought it in unchecked to make the score 5-2.
NU got two goals from Munday before the half ended, though, to take a 7-2 lead into the break, then reeled off four of the first five goals of the second stanza to effectively end the contest.
Ashley Gersuk had eight saves in the Northwestern goal; at the other end, Leslie Smith had 13 stops for Davidson.
Northwestern is on the road for the final three games of the regular season, beginning this Saturday when the Wildcats meet 16th-ranked Notre Dame in South Bend at 11 a.m.
