Wildcats Finish Fourth at OSU's Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Heading into next weekend's Big Ten Championships at the University of Iowa, Northwestern turned in its best finish of the season, placing fourth Sunday afternoon at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational. Ohio State, the host school, won the event by 30 strokes over second-place Kent State. Indiana edged the Wildcats for third place by four strokes.
Individually, senior Elizabeth Burden (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) and junior Lauren Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) finished third and fourth, respectively, the top finish by an NU tandem this season. Burden shot an 8-over 224 (73-75-76), while Grzebien finished at 9-over (76-74-75=225). It was Grzebien's first top-10 finish of the year.
Ohio State's Kristen White won the individual title by nine strokes over teammate Allison Hanna.
Sophomore Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) tied for 18th, shooting 19-over (81-74-80=235), while classmate Mary Ellen Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) and senior Erin Breslin (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) placed 34th and 39th, respectively. Kerri Breslin (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) placed 58th.
The Big Ten Championships get underway this Friday in Iowa City.
