COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Paced by senior Elizabeth Burden (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) and junior Lauren Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett), Northwestern is in third place at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, 25 strokes behind the host school, Ohio State, and seven strokes behind Kent State.
The Wildcats, who stand at 40-over-par (313-303=616), came within one stroke of shooting the second round's top score.
Burden is tied for third place after carding a 4-over 148 (73-75). She is eight strokes behind OSU's Kirsten White, who leads the tournament by six strokes. Grzebien is tied for fifth place, after shooting a 6-over 150 (76-74).
Sophomore Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) is 11-over (81-74=155) and tied for 15th place. Sophomore Mary Ellen Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett), Lauren's younger sister, is tied for 30th place at 19-over (83-80=163).
The Wildcats' second sister combination, Erin Breslin and Kerri Breslin (Portland, Ore./Lincoln), are in 40th and 64th place, respectively.
The third and final round begins Sunday morning.
