COLUMBUS - Northwestern's women's tennis team suffered just its second Big Ten loss in the last 31 contests, falling 4-3 to Ohio State Sunday afternoon at the Stickney Tennis Center. The Wildcats fall to 14-8 on the season and 6-2 in the conference. The Buckeyes move to 6-2 in Big Ten matches and 12-8 on the season. Today's loss moves Northwestern into a tie for second place with the Buckeyes. Minnesota leads the conference with a 7-1 mark.

The 'Cats were down early, losing the doubles point as the Buckeyes won two of the three matches. NU's Andrea Yung and Jamie Peisel fell to Erika Fisk and Jackie Leskovar, 8-4, at No. 2. OSU collected its second win at No. 3, Meaghan Colville and Lindsey Adams downed Connie Chiang and Ruth Barnes, 8-5.

NU's eighth-ranked duo of Cristelle Grier and Jessica Rush remained undefeated (8-0) in Big Ten matches, winning 8-5 at No. 1 over Sadhaf Pervez and Lindsay Williams.

The Wildcats picked up its singles points at No. 1, 2 and 4. Ranked sixth in the nation, Grier extended her dual-match win streak to 21 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Pervez at No. 1. Rush needed three sets for the victory at No. 2, defeating Fisk 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Yung captured the final point for the 'Cats with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Williams at No. 4. The Buckeyes won the remaining three matches for the win. Peisel and Stacy Kokx were both taken to third set tiebreakers before succumbing at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively. Barnes fell in three sets at No. 5 to Emily DeCamilla, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Northwestern will close out the regular season at home next weekend, hosting Michigan State on Saturday and Michigan on Sunday. Both matches are slated to start at 11 a.m. at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
