EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern men's soccer head coach Tim Lenahan announced the addition of six players to the program who will be eligible to play in 2003. This year's early group represents five different states, including two players from Strath Haven High School in Media, Pa.

"We are really excited about this year's class," Lenahan said."We have added several standout players who were being recruited by the nation's top programs. We've added some great attacking players, while adding depth in the midfield, defense and in goal. What is really important is that each of the six players are character guys who understand and have accepted the challenge of making Northwestern a top soccer program."

Prep standouts Dave Brown (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) and Justin Pines (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) played ball together while growing up in Pennsylvania. Brown, a midfielder, is the school recordholder for single season and career assists (27 and 63), while Pines collected 32 shutouts in goal at Strath Haven. Brown was named an all-star at the adidas Elite Soccer Program for the nation's top 150 players. Pines was the 2001 Golden Gloves recipient as the top goalkeeper at the Snickers Cup National Championship.

Kyle Moore (Madison, Miss./Madison Central) is a 2003 Gatorade Player of the Year nominee. A class 5A all-state midfielder at Madison Central, Moore also led his Jackson Futbol Club Team to four state club championships. Brad North (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands), a forward, was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-American Central Region team, and he was also a four-year member of the Texans 84/85 Red Team from the Texans Soccer Club, one of the top clubs in the country.

NU stayed closer to home with John Carlstedt (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) and Daniel Chille (Lake Zurich, Ill./Stevenson). Carlstedt, a midfielder and stopper, helped lead the Dynamo club team to the state title in 2001 and 2002, besides being a four-year starter at his high school. Playing mostly in the midfield, Chille played with the Chicago Sockers Top Talent program instead of playing prep ball. He led the Sockers to the 2001 Snickers National Championship, as well as the 1999, 2000 and 2001 Illinois state club championships.
