NU Takes Third at Midwest Collegiate Conference Team Championships

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Numbers don't lie. That was the case Saturday at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Team Championships in South Bend, Ind., as Northwestern took third place overall. Eighth-ranked NU, the third highest ranked team in the draw, finished behind top-ranked Notre Dame and fourth-ranked Ohio State.
As expected, NU's sabreists led the way with a second-place finish. After a first-round bye, the No. 1-seeded sabre squad cruised through rounds two and three, defeating Lawrence, 5-1, and Notre Dame, 5-2. Ohio State, however, inched by NU in the finals, 5-4.
The ep?e and foil squad each earned second seeds heading into the tournament, but ended the competition in third place.
