Wang Places 27th at USFA Junior Olympics

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) placed 27th out of 149 foilists Friday at the United States Fencing Association Junior Olympics, giving Northwestern its best finish thus far.
Wang, who entered the event as NU's only foil competitor, had compiled a 54-14 record in her first collegiate season.
The 'Cats' sabre representatives, freshman Emily Pasternak (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and sophomore Lauren Van Gieson (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley), competed Saturday and both placed high. Out of 96 fencers, Pasternak finished 30th and Van Gieson took 40th.
Two Northwestern ep?eists are slated to compete Monday. Kelsey Nencheck (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) and Sharon Sullivan (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) step onto the strip at 8 a.m. local time.
Northwestern returns to dual competition Feb. 22 at the Midwest Duals.
