EVANSTON, Ill. -- After a good showing at the Ohio State Duals last week, Northwestern's fencers will try to carry their momentum into Friday though Sunday's Junior World Cup in Louisville, Ky.

The Wildcats will compete unattached at the International Fencing Association-sponsored tournament, which will show case the best fencers under-20 from around the world.

"(This tournament) is a great opportunity for the team," said head coach Laurie Schiller. "It is a chance to test themselves against the best."

Some of those best include NU fencers, too. Last year Julia F?ldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavana Gimnazium) tied for third place in the foil competition. Also in foil, freshman Jessica Florendo (Forest Hills, N.Y./The Dwight School), although not a Wildcat at the time, put up a 17th-place showing.

In addition, Sharon Sullivan (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) found some success in epee, taking 15th.

Women's sabre competition will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, women's epee will commence at 11 a.m. Saturday and women's foil is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
