COLUMBUS, Ohio--Northwestern's women's fencing team had a great performance at its first dual meet of the year, crushing six of its seven opponents at the Ohio State Duals last weekend.
Against Chicago, the Wildcats (6-1 overall) won 26-1, with both the epee and sabre squads going 9-0. In fact, both those squads also blanked Bowling Green (final score 27-0), Michigan State (final score 24-3) and Case Western (final score 25-2).

The one loss came at the hands of Ohio State, which swept the meet. The Buckeyes took down the 'Cats 20-7, topping them for the second straight year.
Individual leaders for Northwestern include sabreists Emily Pasternak (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and Lauren Van Gieson (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley), who compiled scores of 6-0 and 7-2, respectively.
At foil, Julia Foldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium) put up a 16-1 day, while Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) went 14-2.
