EVANSTON, Ill. - If one were to simply read in the paper that Illinois-Chicago shut out Northwestern 2-0, they would likely assume that UIC dominated the match. However, anyone who actually saw it, would tell another story all together.

Northwestern outshot the Flames 16-6 in the match, but gave up two goals that proved to be the only statistic that truly mattered.

The Wildcats fall back to .500 on the season (6-6-4) with two regular-season games remaining. Illinois-Chicago, meanwhile, improves its season mark to 8-4-2.

Roberto Gallo tallied the first UIC goal, taking a turnover inside the NU circle and beating goalkeeper Brian Heckenbach at 33:17 to give Illinois-Chicago the lead.

Less than 12 minutes into the second half, John DaVae took a pass from Dennis King and fired a shot past Heckenbach into the back of the net to extend the UIC lead to 2-0.

With the two-goal advantage, the Flames sat back in their defensive zone and attempted to keep Northwestern from getting close to the goal. The plan, however, did not work as they probably hoped.

NU fired 13 shots after the second goal, but was unable to convert any of the opportunities into goals.

UIC's Ross Cain was steady in net, stopping all seven shots the 'Cats fired his way.

NU is back in action Sunday when it travels to Columbus, Ohio for a date with the Buckeyes.
