UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Northwestern fell to No. 8 Penn State 3-0 in University Park Sunday. The Wildcats fall to 5-7 overall and are now winless in four games in Big Ten play. Penn State, meanwhile, improves to 12-3 on the year and moves to 3-1 in the conference.
The Nittany Lions opened the scoring at 24:51 when Neilye Stoner ripped a shot from the top of the circle past NU goalkeeper Sherri-Anne Nyberg to give PSU a 1-0 lead.
Penn State's Mary Shaefer put the Lions up 2-0 when she took a cross from Timarie Legal and knocked the ball into the back of the goal at 51:18.
Penn State tallied its final goal less than ten minutes later when Legel scored her 10th goal of the season off a pass from Heather Conroy.
The NU attack was not able to find the goal once again, outshooting the Lions until late in the contest.
Nyberg stopped five shots for the 'Cats, while Penn State goalie made six saves en route to the shutout. The Wildcats have been held scoreless in their four conference matches this season. They will look to get back on track Friday when they travel to Indiana for a date with the Hoosiers.
