EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's Drew Robertson (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) takes her role as co-captain seriously. On Friday night, the Wildcats needed their captain to play an amazing match to beat Ohio State in five games (30-24, 19-30, 30-27, 33-35, 15-12). NU's last win over the Buckeyes in Evanston came on October 23, 1998, snapping a five-year skid vs. Ohio State.

"Drew played exceptionally well tonight," said head coach Keylor Chan. "When we didn't play our best, she was the glue that held us together mentally while making plays for us."

Northwestern and Ohio State each convincingly took a game early in the match before the teams broke out and made it interesting for the fans at Welsh-Ryan. The final three games were each decided by three or less points, with game four lasting to a 35-33 win for the Buckeyes. In game five, NU trailed by as many as three early on before tying the game at nine, eventually pulling ahead by three for the win.

Middle blocker Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) led the 'Cats with 20 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Junior Jill Buschur (New Bremen, Ohio/New Bremen) followed with 17 kills and a .289. Robertson had 58 assists in the match and a team-leading 18 digs.

"I'm happy we won and we are lucky to have won, but we'll take it," said Chan. "We now have to look toward Penn State and play the way I know we can to win."

The Wildcats (11-6 overall, 2-3 in the Big Ten) and the No. 11 Nittany Lions will face off at 7 p.m. Saturday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
