EVANSTON, Ill. - Playing its second ACC team in the last eight days, Northwestern's field hockey team dropped an evenly contested match 1-0 to Virginia Friday afternoon at Lakeside Field. A missed penalty stroke and a late first-half goal proved to be the difference.

Just over nine minutes into the game, junior midfielder Suzi Sutton (York, Pa./Dallastown) was called upon by head coach Marisa Didio to convert its first penalty stroke of the season. On the attempt, Sutton banged the ball off the upper right post squandering the Wildcats best scoring opportunity. Sutton led all players with four shots.

Eleven minutes later, Virginia was awarded a penalty corner in front of the Wildcat goal. The initial shot was taken by Kelli Hill and redirected by Katie Slocum for the only goal of the game.

The Wildcat offense outshot the Cavaliers 10-6, including 4-1 shots-on-goal. But UVA goalkeeper Emily White, who has yet to give up a goal in 2002, went the distance to record her second shutout, saving four shots.

NU netminder, Kelly Augustine (Northampton, Pa./Northampton), continued to perform well despite being on the losing end.
