Box Score

Sparked by a Doug Gibson (Novi, Mich./Novi) goal, Northwestern made a late rally but lost, 2-1, to Columbia, one of the Ivy League's toughest teams. The Wildcats dropped to 3-3-0 on the year, while the Lions upped their record to 2-0-0.

"We scored a late goal to make things interesting," said NU assistant coach Erik Ronning. "But we just fell short."

The Wildcats fell behind in the first half thanks to the Lions' Thorstein Gestsson. The sophomore scored twice in a two-minute span to give his team a 2-0 halftime lead.

After the match, the 'Cats' Jaro Pylypczak (Lombard, Ill./Benet Academy), Tito Lara (Joliet, Ill./Joliet) and Brad Napper (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) were named to the Lafayette Soccer Classic all-tournament team.

Pylypczak anchored the Wildcats' defense throughout the weekend, while Napper assisted Lara on the game-winning goal Friday against La Salle.

Northwestern returns to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Lakeside Field.
