Box Score

Tito Lara (Joliet, Ill./Joliet) is quickly making a name for himself as a go-to-guy for the Wildcats. The freshman scored his third game-winning goal of the season, helping the 'Cats (3-2-0) to a 1-0 win against La Salle at the Lafayette Soccer Classic.

The Classic marks a homecoming of sorts for NU head coach Tim Lenahan, who coached the Leopards for three seasons before coming to Evanston.

Steven Jedlinski (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) set up Brad Napper (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep), who won a head ball and sent it Lara's way. Lara buried the ball in the goal, giving Napper his second assist of 2002 and Jedlinski his first.

"We looked pretty good," said NU assistant coach Erik Ronning. "We went in and got a result. Now we have to focus on Columbia, which is a very good and physical team."

J.D. Martin (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) recorded his second shutout this year, making three saves.

The Wildcats outshot the Explorers 7-4. Lara led the way with three shots, and Dave Vargas (North Olmsted, Ohio/St. Ignatius) took two.

NU returns meets Columbia at noon Sunday for their last match of the Lafayette Soccer Classic.
