Amy Balcerzak-Field Earns Army Vet Scholarship

EVANSTON, Ill. - Amy Balcerzak-Field, a former Northwestern women's swimmer who currently competes for the U.S. National B Team and Team TYR club, has been awarded the highly prestigious Army Veterinary Corps scholarship, which will grant her a full scholarship and stipend for the duration of her tenure at The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. The scholarship program is one of the most competitive in the country, with the criteria for winning such an award being exceedingly high.

Amy is Vice-President of the Class of 2005 at Penn, and completed her first year with a GPA of 4.0. Recently, Balcerzak-Field was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, and upon graduation she will go on active duty with the rank of Captain. After graduation, Balcerzak-Field's duties will include veterinary work and other health care functions at a domestic military installation for a period of three years.

A four-time Academic All-American and 20-time All-American at Northwestern, Balcerzak-Field graduated with a GPA of 3.78 in Biological Sciences. She is a former American Record Holder in the 50 breaststroke (Short Course Meters) and currently ranks 10th in the world in the 100 breaststroke (Long Course Meters).
