EVANSTON, Ill. - The American Lacrosse Conference has announced its honors for the inaugural season of the league, and Northwestern was recognized with the inclusion of Kate Darmody (Northport, N.Y./Northport) on the all-conference team.

"I'm excited for Kate," said NU head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller. "She was our best defender all year long, and it is rewarding to see her recognized by the other coaches in the conference for her efforts."

Darmody started all 15 games for the 5-10 Wildcats, often being assigned to the opposing team's top offensive player. She finished among NU's leaders with 32 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers, and she also came up with six draw controls.

Vanderbilt head coach Cathy Swezey, who led the Commodores to an undefeated regular season in the conference and the school's first berth in the NCAA Division I women's lacrosse championships, was tapped as the league's Coach of the Year. Ohio State teammates Megan Mirick and Regina Oliver were selected as the Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively. Both Mirick and Oliver were also named to the All-Conference Team, which honored 12 players from the various teams in the conference.

The American Lacrosse Conference, in its first year of existence, is a lacrosse-only conference that consists of Northwestern in addition to Davidson College, Johns Hopkins University, Ohio University, The Ohio State University, Penn State University, and Vanderbilt University.
