Wildcat Swimmer Erica Rose Wins in China

Northwestern sophomore Erica Rose (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School), the 1998 Open Water World Champion and a three-time U.S. National champ, won the 2002 Wuhan International Yangtze River Speed-Crossing Competition. Complete results are not yet available, but Rose came out as the top female in the annual event, which hosted an international field for the first time this year. Rose becomes the first and only foreigner to win the competition.
The race, a 2000-meter swim across the Yangtze River, was first made famous by Chairman Mao in the 1960s. More than 100,000 people watched and the entire swim was broadcast live on CCTV all over China and the Philippines.Results and more information will be posted as soon as it is available.
