PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sarah Albrecht had three goals and Courtney Flynn added a goal and an assist, but it was not enough as Northwestern fell to Brown, 13-6, in women's lacrosse action Monday afternoon at the Bears' Stevenson Field.
The Wildcats fell to 2-7 on the season, while Brown improved to 4-4. The Bears, out of the Ivy League, won for the second time in three days.
Rebekah Rottenberg led the way for Brown, scoring five goals, while Katie Russell had three.
Brown got on the board quickly, as Katie Zabel scored just 25 second into the contest. Rottenberg notched her first of the day at 4:46, before Albrecht converted Flynn's feed to get NU on the scoreboard. Brown struck back with three quick goals, but then Sara Crosby made a nice individual play to make the score 5-2. Brown scored two more times and took a 7-2 lead into the halftime break.
NU drew first blood in the second half when Albrecht converted a feed from Donna McCann. Brown again scored twice, before Angela McMahon made the score 9-4 with a free-position goal. However, that was as close as the 'Cats would get, as Brown scored two unanswered goals and then matched tallies by Albrecht and Flynn down the stretch.
In goal, Ashley Gersuk had eight saves including six in the first half.
Northwestern is back in action twice this weekend, both times at home. The Wildcats will host Ohio University Friday afternoon, then Duquesne Sunday morning. Both games will take place on Lakeside Field.
