MADISON, N.J. - Sophomore Angela McMahon scored four goals and added an assist, and the defense proved to be stingy in the second half, as the Northwestern women's lacrosse program began its resurrection with a 15-2 win over Marist College in Madison, N.J.

Courtney Koester, a sophomore who has just picked up the sport, added three goals to aid the Wildcat attack. Sarah Albrecht also added three goals, while Marit Spekman notched a pair of goals.

Northwestern led the game, 7-2, at the half, then shut down the Red Foxes completely in the second half to take control of the contest.

"This was a good game for us," said head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller. "We played well defensively and put a lot of pressure on them. At the other end, we were able to capitalize on our offensive opportunities."

Meredith Philipp got the start in goal and made three saves. In the second half, Ashley Gersuk stopped all five shots she faced.

Northwestern is next in action Sunday afternoon, facing Richmond in a neutral-site game that will take place in Baltimore, Md.
