BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Northwestern women's tennis team improved to 9-4, 3-0 in Big Ten play with a 5-2 win over Indiana Saturday afternoon.
The 13th-ranked Wildcats swept the doubles point by winning all three matches. The No. 1 team of Lia Jackson and Simona Petrutiu won 8-5, as did the No. 2 team of Marine Piriou and Jessica Rush. Ruth Barnes and Andrea Yung were 8-6 winners at No. 3.
Piriou (No. 1), Rush (No. 3) and Yung (No. 5) all won in straight sets in singles, while Jackson recovered from a slow start to win in three sets (1-6, 6-0, 6-4) at No. 2. The biggest upset occured at No. 4, where Petrutiu had a 10-match winning streak snapped with a three-set loss to Inga Radel.
The Wildcats are next in action Sunday against Purdue.
