Women's Tennis Sweeps Michigan State, 7-0

EVANSTON, Ill. - For the second time in as many days, the Northwestern women's tennis team swept its opponent. This time it was the Spartans of Michigan State. The Wildcats improve to 8-4, 2-0, as MSU fell to 6-4, 0-2.

Once again Northwestern took the early lead by sweeping doubles for the first point of the match. Marine Piriou and Jessica Rush were back at the No. 1 slot, where they defeated MSU's duo of Mandy Caldemeyer and Kate Thomas, 8-1.

The Wildcats won each of the singles matches in straight sets. On a nine-match win streak, senior Simona Petrutiu moved into the No. 3 spot in the lineup, where she defeated Lid?n, 6-4, 6-1. Petrutiu started the season playing at No. 5. Rush, ranked 74th in the nation, was victorious at the No. 4 spot, edging Caroline Lay, 6-3, 6-3. NU's No. 1 singles player, Piriou, won easily, 6-0, 6-3, over Dora Vastag

The Wildcats are next in action March 9 when they travel to Indiana for a 11 a.m. match.
