EVANSTON, Ill. - It's hard to believe the No. 6 Northwestern women's fencing team will be competing in its final regular-season dual matches this weekend, but fencing is not a sport with a 20-event schedule. The women only had six events this season, competing in as many as five duals a day.
This weekend, the 'Cats (22-3) will travel to Detroit for the Wayne State Duals, where they will match up against Michigan, Michigan State, Detroit-Mercy and the host Warriors. NU met and defeated each of these teams earlier in the season.
NU remains No. 6 in the latest College Fencing Coaches Association poll, while Notre Dame dropped to No. 3 and Ohio State, formerly tied with the 'Cats at sixth, moved up to fourth. None of this weekend's competition is ranked.
The Wayne State Duals will be the final tune-up for the Wildcats, who will seek their fourth straight Midwest Fencing Conference title on March 2.
