Women's Tennis Blanks Marquette

EVANSTON, Ill. - After falling in two matches over the weekend, the Northwestern (6-4, 0-0) women's tennis team rebounded with a 7-0 win over Marquette (1-7, 0-0) Wednesday afternoon at the Combe Tennis Center.
Northwestern swept the doubles competition, winning at Nos. 1 and 2 quickly. Junior Marine Piriou and sophomore Jessica Rush defeated Marquette's No. 1s, 8-2. At No. 2, seniors Lia Jackson and Simona Petrutiu downed Annabelle Espinosa and Veronica Briseno, 8-1. The match was a little closer at No. 3, where Ruth Barnes and Stacky Kokx won, 8-6, over Alexandra Stankovic and Eva Trujillo-Herrera.
The Wildcats won the singles portion of the match with ease, winning all six in straight sets. With her 6-2, 6-4 win over Trujillo-Herrera, Jackson collected the 100th win of her Northwestern career. She is now 100-35 (.741). Piriou won at the top spot, allowing Genevieve Charron only three points in the 6-0, 6-3 match. Petrutiu, kept her winning streak alive, with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Briseno at No. 4.
The Wildcats are next in action on Saturday when they open Big Ten competition, hosting Michigan in an 11 a.m. match at the Combe Tennis Center.
