EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern men's tennis player Jackie Jenkins (College Park, Ga./Westlake) and his family are among several families that will be featured on Thursday's episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
The topic of the show is "Extraordinary Families," and the Jenkins clan certainly qualifies. Jackie, a three-year starter on the tennis team, is the oldest of nine children. His parents, Brenda and Jackie Jenkins Sr., are raising three biological children, three adopted children and three foster children.
The sport of tennis is the tie that binds this strong family together. Jackie Jr. is on full scholarship at NU, and brother Jarmere, a high school senior, recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis at Clemson. Several of the other children hold high state and regional rankings in their respective age groups.
"The Oprah Winfrey Show" can be seen in the Chicago area on WLS-TV, the ABC affiliate, at 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.
