Women's Tennis Falls to No. 4 Duke, 5-2

DURHAM, N.C. - The Northwestern women's tennis team lost its second match of the weekend, falling to fourth-ranked Duke 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The 'Cats fell to 5-4 on the season as Duke improved to 6-1.
The match began with Northwestern taking the doubles point by easily winning at the top two slots. Marine Piriou and Lia Jackson defeated Kelly McCain and Amanda Johnson at No. 1 (8-2), and Jessica Rush and Simona Petrutiu knocked off Hillary Adams and Katie Granson at No. 2 (8-2) for the point.
With momentum in NU's favor, Duke came out strong and won five of the six singles matches for the victory. Petrutiu was the lone winner for the 'Cats, defeating Granson (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) at No. 4.
The Wildcats will host Marquette on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Combe Tennis Center. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
