Northwestern Heads to Princeton Duals

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern got some strong performances in last weekend's NU Duals and it achieved a 4-0 mark. The Wildcats will need some more of the same at this weekend's Princeton Duals, which will feature some of the nation's best collegiate fencing programs.
Three of the participants this weekend ended up in the top-10 of the final 2002 poll. St. John's earned the No. 1 ranking, Penn State the No. 2 and host Princeton the No. 8. North Carolina, which will also be on hand at the Princeton Duals, received some votes. Northwestern will fence Princeton, North Carolina and New York University.
As expected, the 'Cats performed well in their dual meet opener. The sabre squad won 34 of a possible 36 points, leading the team to a perfect record last weekend. Lauren Dunn (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) and Lauren Van Gieson (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) led the sabreists each with an 11-0 mark.
Sophomore Kelsey Nencheck (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) also went 11-0, leading the ep?eists. She had a total of 16 wins all of last season.
Freshmen Sharon Sullivan (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) had strong showings. Sullivan posted a 10-1 mark in ep?e and Wang posted a 9-1 record in foil.
Northwestern begins competition against North Carolina at 3:15 p.m., followed by New York University and Princeton.
