EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's fencing team opens its dual meet season Saturday as it hosts the NU Duals at Patten Gymnasium. The 'Cats then host the Illinois Junior Olympics on Sunday, which is another individual event.
NU is coming off of a strong performance at the USFA Junior North American Cup last weekend in Greenville, S.C. Sophomore Julia Foldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium) led the Wildcats with a seventh-place finish in the foil competition.
"These duals are an excellent beginning for us, as we should do very well," Schiller said. "But it will be a test of a young team, many of whom have never fenced college meet or were starters before. So we will be looking forward to seeing who will step up and lead. If we do well, it will be an excellent confidence builder."
Competition begins both days at approximately 9 a.m.
