EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern (7-8) gets a shot at its third straight win and its first Big Ten win of the season at 2 p.m. Sunday against Michigan at Lakeside Field. The Wildcats are 7-5 against nonconference opponents but 0-3 against their Big Ten counterparts.
NU has been on a roll the last two games, outscoring its opponents 5-0 and outshooting them 26-6. During that span, Adam Sirois (Barrington, N.H./Berwick Academy) notched a goal and two assists, Jeremy Cook (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) recorded two assists and Tito Lara (Joliet, Ill./Joliet) scored a pair of goals.
Michigan entered the week with a 5-6-1 mark, including 1-3 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines are coming off last week's 3-2 win at Wisconsin. They visit Illinois-Chicago, which knocked off NU, 3-1, on Friday before coming to Lakeside Field.
Knox Cameron and Mychal Turpin lead a Michigan attack that averages 2.6 goals per game. Turpin has nine goals and three assists for a team-best 21 points. Cameron, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound forward, has eight goals and three assists.
Goalkeeper Peter Dzubay has come on strong of late. He has appeared in six games (two starts) and posted a 1.17 goals-against average (GAA). Dzubay is 2-1 and has the team's only shutout.
The shutout has been a big part of NU's success, as six of its seven wins have been shutouts. Goalkeeper J.D. Martin (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) has been a big part of that, starting all 15 matches, posting a 1.18 GAA and recording 64 saves.
The Michigan game marks the first of a four-game span during which Northwestern will face three Big Ten opponents. NU wraps up the season Nov. 10 at home against Ohio State.
