Wildcats in Seventh Place at Alister MacKenzie Invitational

FAIRFAX, Calif. -- Unable to complete the second round due to darkness, Northwestern's 10th-ranked men's golf team will try to make up ground on Tuesday after shooting a 3-under 281 for the first 18 holes at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational. The tournament is being hosted by the University of California at the Meadow Club.
After completion of the first round, the Wildcats were nine strokes behind UC Irvine, which shot a 12-under 272.
The Wildcats were paced by their two California natives, Tom Johnson (Weaverville, Calif./Del Campo) and Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland), who shot respective rounds of 68 and 69 on the par-71 course. The 69 was a career-best round for Dougherty, a sophomore. He is in 21st place.
Johnson, ranked fifth in the latest Golfweek national rankings, is tied for 10th place, four strokes behind UC Irvine's Mike Lavery.
Senior Scott Harrington (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) fired a 1-under 70 and is tied for 26th.
Northwestern is one of six top-50 teams playing in this tournament. UCLA, which is two strokes behind UC Irvine, is ranked fifth nationally. The Wildcats are the only tourney entrant that does not hail from the West Coast or Rocky Mountain states.
