EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's fencing team dominated the USFA Burton and the Big Ten Club Championships this weekend at Patten Gymnasium, taking first place for each weapon squad.
As expected, Julia F?ldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium) kept up her strong performance from last season, winning both foil titles, but it was the performance of a freshmen trio that stole the show.
Sharon Sullivan (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) won both ep?e titles. Emily Pasternak (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) won the USFA Burton sabre title. Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) finished second behind F?ldi both days.
Lauren Van Gieson (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley), who had a team-best .781 sabre winning percentage last year, won the Big Ten Club sabre title.
Northwestern is home again Oct 19-20 when it hosts the USFA Remenyik at Patten Gymnasium.
