Ashley Carter Named Big Ten Diver of the Week

Evanston, Ill. - After totaling one of the highest six-dive scores in NU history on the 3-meter springboard, Ashley Carter (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) was rewarded by being named Big Ten Diver of the Week for the week of Jan. 21. This is the freshman's first conference honor.

Under the direction of second-year diving coach Tom Michaels, Carter has been the driving force behind the Wildcats' much improved squad. She has finished first on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard once this season, and has been the 'Cats top diver in every meet this season.

In Saturday's dual against No. 18 Penn State, Carter posted a six-dive total of 304.58 on the 3-meter, over 30 points higher than her closest competitor. She also took third on the 1-meter with a score off 234.53.

Along with the Big Ten honor, Carter will be featured on the conference web site www.bigten.org as part of the Big Ten's Q&A with Athletes of the Week.
