EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern men's soccer coach Tim Lenahan announced today the addition of a pair of assistants to the Wildcats' coaching staff. Roaming the sidelines of Lakeside field this fall with Lenahan will be former Colgate assistant Erik Ronning and Chicago Fire All-Star midfielder Jesse Marsch.

Ronning enters his first season as an assistant coach after working at Colgate University the past four seasons. Ronning will be the first full-time assistant coach in the history of the Northwestern men's soccer program.

At Colgate, Ronning was responsible for all aspects of recruiting and presided over off-season workouts and individual training sessions. He also taught selected physical education classes and was the faculty liaison to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Ronning's other coaching experience comes from the New York State West Olympic Development Program where he was responsible for selecting and coaching the under-15 (1999), under-17 (2000) and under 14 (2000-01).

Ronning played his college soccer at Colgate, where he was a four-year starter for the Raiders and earned first team All-Patriot League honors in 1995. Ronning graduated in 1996 with a degree in history, and received his Masters of Arts and Teaching from Colgate last May.

Also in his first year, Marsch will serve as a volunteer assistant for the Wildcats. Marsch has been a member of Major League Soccer for the past six seasons, currently residing in the midfield for the Chicago Fire after playing for D.C. United his first two seasons. Marsch has started 101 matches in his career, tallying 11 goals and 21 assists. He made his first MLS All-Star appearance this summer, and holds the distinction of being the only player in the MLS with three championship rings.

A Wisconsin native, Marsch played college soccer at Princeton University where he is fourth all-time in career points with 73. He led the Ivy League in scoring his junior and senior years. During his senior season, he scored 16 goals, notched five assist and was selected first team All-Ivy.
