Stats

Evanston, Ill. - If Friday evening's opener was any indication, fans of Northwestern men's soccer should be in for an exciting ride under new head coach Tim Lenahan. In a riveting match at Lakeside Field, the Wildcats overcame a 2-0 deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with Loyola.

The Ramblers got on the board first when an errant NU header caused an own goal at the 6:16 mark. LU quickly added another goal in the 11th minute when Adam Hitchman fired a direct kick from 20 yards out that caught a huge tailwind and slipped by NU freshman goalie Ryan Pederson (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North).

Wildcat senior Grant Trimble (Olathe, Kan./North) finally got the ball rolling for NU, scoring the 17th goal of his career. NU evened the score with less than 15 minutes left in regulation with a goal by Matt Miclea (Lake Villa, Ill./Antioch Community).

The score remained tied throughout 30 minutes of overtime as darkness rapidly descended. The Ramblers outshot the 'Cats 6-4 in the extra time, but neither team could put the game away.

The 'Cats open up the Big Ten schedule Sunday, taking on 18th-ranked Ohio State at noon.
